About the Role

• A media company that publishes a portfolio of lifestyle and custom magazine titles is hiring an Associate Art Director. The company produces print publications covering luxury lifestyle, real estate, culture, and community across multiple markets.
• This is a hands-on editorial design role reporting to the Design Director. The Associate Art Director will handle all aspects of magazine design across multiple titles, from visual conceptualization of features and page layout to sourcing and collecting photography. The work includes designing features, departments, and special projects within established style guidelines for each publication. Strong typographic skills and an understanding of visual hierarchy are essential, as is the ability to collaborate closely with editors and photographers to craft compelling layouts for every story.
• A strong fit for a designer with a genuine love of editorial design, typography, and printed materials who thrives on detail and can manage multiple publications and deadlines simultaneously.

What the Role Covers

• Designing all aspects of magazine layouts across lifestyle and custom titles
• Visual conceptualization of features and special projects
• Page layout and design within existing style guidelines for each publication
• Collecting and sourcing photography
• Designing features, departments, and other special projects as needed
• Working closely with editors and photographers to create compelling layouts

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or Advertising, or 3-5 years of magazine experience
• Strong experience in graphic design and layout for print media
• Excellent knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles
• Proficiency in InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other Mac-based design applications
• Strong typographic skills and understanding of visual hierarchy
• Excellent attention to detail and strong visualization skills
• Ability to multitask and work under pressure while meeting deadlines
