Conveyor Mechanic

Position Summary

The Industrial Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in supporting daily operations by ensuring equipment reliability and minimizing downtime. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial machinery while driving a shift from reactive to planned and preventive maintenance. The technician will actively support continuous improvement initiatives, enhance maintenance processes, and help develop technical capability across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain production and quality standards by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Perform skilled work across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, boiler, wastewater, and general facility maintenance.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations by diagnosing issues, implementing corrective actions, and completing timely repairs.
  • Execute preventive maintenance activities on motors, pneumatic systems, conveyor systems, and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions using diagrams, schematics, operation manuals, manufacturer specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Remove and replace defective components using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Inspect worn or damaged parts, adjust functional components, and recommend dimensional or mechanical improvements.
  • Minimize downtime by coordinating preventive maintenance activities and communicating effectively with production teams.
  • Manage maintenance inventory by tracking equipment, parts, and supplies; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; and verifying receipt.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and maintenance efficiency.
  • Maintain technical proficiency by completing DuPont Level 2 and Level 3 Technician Training.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment in compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to overall team success by performing additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 4–8 years of industrial maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical certification or accreditation from a recognized skilled trades program or technical school.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Electrical systems and troubleshooting
    • Mechanical systems
    • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Experience working with AC and DC electrical circuits, including voltages ranging from 5V DC up to 480V AC.
  • Proficiency with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or guide up to 50 pounds independently (or more with assistance).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must provide a personal set of professional maintenance tools.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Food distribution center / industrial warehouse setting
  • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Occasional overnight or off-shift work may be required based on operational needs

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bowie, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
