Job Description and Duties

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Teacher, (Elementary-Multiple Subjects), CF collaborates with special education teachers to create lesson plans and develop curriculum for eligible students (between the ages of 18-21) with an individualized education program (IEP) participating in general education instruction to meet the unique needs of the student; or may coordinate with the facility 504 Coordinator to ensure students with a verified disability within the meaning of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, as amended by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, have access to education programs. Prepares course of study and daily lesson plans for students enrolled in the adult basic education program and is responsible for conducting academic assessments and testing  in compliance with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-Title II, Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA)-Public Law 113-128, and the California Department of Education (COE) State Leadership Project, Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) requirements. The Teacher, (Elementary-Multiple Subjects), CF is assigned to

provide academic instruction focusing on the full continuum of literacy topics, including reading, writing, and speaking English; understanding and accessing digital media and technology; understanding number skills and computing mathematics; understanding and effectively using financial skills in academic and career technical education programs to facilitate student progress, performance, achievement, and self-determination.

Note: The term "students" in this duty statement refer to individuals that are enrolled in courses.

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three (3) percent in exchange for five (5) hours per month of the Personal Leave.

This position is eligible for Safety Designation once appointed.

Working Conditions

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  The Teacher, (Elementary-Multiple Subjects), CF used by the DDS, Porterville Developmental Center (PDC) is responsible for maintaining order and supervising the conduct of clients; maintaining the safety of persons and property; and delivering classroom instruction to ensure the achievement of students with an IEP using evidence-based practices and recognized instructional strategies to create a learning environment for students to achieve their learning goals. The Teacher, (Elementary-Multiple Subjects), CF incorporates activities and instruction designed to build appropriate social emotional skills; and support the students as they develop academic proficiency. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment. Ensures the safety of public, staff, and forensic clients, which may include, but not limited to: escorting forensic clients in the facility; distributing and accounting for all training equipment and supplies to prevent their use as weapons; inspecting facilities to identify security breaches that could lead to the escape of a forensic client; and observing and intervening in forensic client behaviors that may injure people, damage property, or signal impending escape attempts. Required to maintain personal safety by wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring that the PPE is in good, working condition.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance, and sensory ability to perform the duties contained within this duty statement. This position has ongoing responsibility for the protection and safeguarding of the public and property, and regular and substantial contact with forensic individuals. As a condition of employment, incumbents are required to and capable of responding to emergency situations and provide a level of service to the public such that the safety of the public and of property is not jeopardized. Employees will be required to perform the following essential functions: must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; must be able to participate in client containment, intervention, or restraint in emergency situations; must have the ability to work extended hours if so needed.
